We are vexed  that even in death Vusi is subjected to such humiliation. This reminds us of a case of the Blue Bulls rugby player Jacobus “Bees” Roux  who walked out of the Pretoria High Court a free man after paying R750k to the family of a metro police cop  he brutally murdered . We reaffirm the view that indeed black lives matter and that the apartheid law of restitution should completely be removed from our constitution as it undermines the spirit of our values as a people  

We welcome the initiative by the ANC Gauteng Deputy Chairperson and Gauteng Education and Youth Mec comrade Panyaza Lesufi who raised funds to help the family and so as to embolden them to reject blood money and to put their faith in the wheels of justice.

We reject the attempt to buy freedom at the expense of a righteous life of a breadwinner as this undermines the worth and value of his life and further undermines our dignity as African. We reiterate that there should never be a law in our democratic dispensation that allows those with big pockets to pay their way out of  serving prison time for committing crime including murder !
We demand justice for Vusi Mgiwa and his family!

Money must not and should not be used to influence the outcome of court processes. This incident confirms that there still people who don’t value the life of others and undermines the rule of law and violates the sanctity of life.
