ANC GP Appoints a New Chief Whip
The African National Congress (ANC) Gauteng Province congratulates Comrade Sochayile “Socks” Khanyile for his appointment as the Chief Whip of the ANC Caucus in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature (GPL). He was officially introduced to the legislature in his new role this morning.
The appointment of Cde Sochayile follows the resignation of the former Chief Whip Comrade Brian Hlongwa who resigned last week Tuesday.
Cde Sochayile brings with him a wealth of experience as a public representative. Having served as a Councillor at the Alberton Town Council TLC in 1995. He then proceeded to join the ANC Caucus in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature as Secretary to Caucus in 2008, joining the GPL as a Member of the Provincial Legislature from 2014 to date. In the GPL he served as Chairperson of the Safety Portfolio Committee and a Member of Oversight Committee on the Office of the Premier and Legislature (OCPOL)
We are convinced that the activism of Cde Sochayile as a seasoned activist of the mass democratic movement will bring invaluable organisational experience in the ANC Caucus in the GPL. Cde Sochayile has previously served as Chairperson of the ANC Youth League (ANCYL) in Gauteng, Regional Secretary of the ANC in Ekurhuleni, Provincial organiser and later as an ANC Gauteng Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) member from 1996 to 2018.
We are confident that he will steer the ANC Caucus in the GPL to greater heights.
We wish the Chief Whip well in this important role.
