ANC Gauteng province wishes matriculants best of luck in their final exams

The African National Congress Gauteng Province wishes the Class of 2019 all the best as they prepare to write their final examination from tomorrow (Wednesday, 16 October) with over 150 000 candidates sitting for the National Senior Certificate (NSC).

Gauteng has the highest enrolment for the NSC examination in the country with a total of 111 775 full-time candidates and 41 599 part-time candidates. This is 4 612 more candidates registered compared to last year.

The year-end NSC examinations will commence with the administration of the Computer Applications Technology Practical examination on 16 October 2019 and conclude with Music on 29 November 2019.

Gauteng claimed top spot by achieving 87.9% in the 2018 NSC results with an unprecedented eight out of ten top performing districts nationally being from the province.

“We have no doubt that the hard work that our learners have put throughout this year will see them do well in their exams and thus enable them to pursue career paths that will equip them with the skills required to grow Gauteng,” Bones Modise, ANCGP Spokesperson, explains.

Modise further points out that “It is normal for learners to experience pre-exam anxieties given the intensity of this period. This is why it is important for all of us to offer whatever form of support we are able to give that will help our young people to cope during this time. We also want to urge our leaners to plan well, take enough rest and to seek help when they feel overwhelmed.”

Meanwhile, the Gauteng Department of Education and Youth Development has a standing agreement with Child Line to assist learners who experience stress due to exam pressure or after receiving results. Learners can phone Child Line on their toll-free 0800 055 555 or 011 645 2000 (during working hours) for counselling assistance. Parents or members of the community are also urged to use these numbers to seek support for any learner they suspect of not coping.
