ANC Gauteng province urges society to participate in the land hearings
The ANC Gauteng Province has urged the people of the province including its members to take advantage of the ongoing parliamentary public hearings on the land question currently underway.
The Constitutional Review Committee is holding meetings in the province to solicit public views on the possible amendment of Section 25 of the Constitution. The first meeting was held on Thursday in West Rand, today the seating is at Sedibeng Town Hall (Vereeniging) and on Saturday, 28 July it will be held at Lucas van der Berg Community Hall in Pretoria West.
It is important that all members of society come out in large numbers and make their views heard on the land question. This must be an inclusive process that allows all voices to be heard as the land issue affects all of us.
The recently held 13th Provincial Conference of the ANC in Gauteng took place at time when the historical injustice of the Land Question has received heightened attention since the 54th National Conference.
We are pleased that already the ANC-led provincial government has been working with municipalities to develop a comprehensive land redistribution and rapid land release plan which will be implemented with immediate effect. Land is going to be given to the people who want to build houses for themselves while other pieces of land will be released to those who want to establish their own businesses especially in the townships.
Outside of the public hearings the province will soon convene the Gauteng Land Summit to discuss the implementation of the comprehensive land redistribution and rapid land release plan with various stakeholders.
