The ANC Caucus in Gauteng Provincial Legislature welcomes the 2020/ 21 Provincial budget as tabled by MEC Nkomo-Ralehoko today.

This budget is a commitment to implement Key priorities for Gauteng Province which include:
Economy, jobs, infrastructure, Education, skills revolution, health, Integrated human settlements, land release, Safety, social cohesion, food security and  Building a capable, ethical, developmental state.

We are mindful that this budget is presented in a difficult economic climate.

Caucus is pleased that this budget
 of  R142 367 207  is aligned to our vision of Growing Gauteng Together (GGT2030) which is a blueprint print illuminating our path to 2030.

The allocation of R 189 Million to implement a comprehensive Gender Based Violence (GBV) Response Plan demonstrates our commitment to decisively deal with the scourge of GBV.

The allocation of  R 1.6 billion for  strengthening the District Health Services will improve the quality of care in public health institutions. We are pleased that mental health services in public hospitals are prioritised through the R1.5 billion allocation.

The ANC Caucus welcomes the announcement and the allocation of R 157 million for  the completion of the Urban Renewal Projects in Alexandra, Evaton, Kliptown, Bekkersdal and Winterveldt as resolved by the ANC. We welcome the additional R 205 million set aside for provision of 10 000 serviced sites as announced by Premier David Makhura during the State of the Province Address.

We commend the Gauteng Provincial Government investment in Education by allocating R 954 million in order to produce skills required for the economy through the Schools of Specialisation. The R 2.5 billion for universal access to Early Childhood Development (ECD) demonstrates our commitment to making education a societal priority.

Caucus welcomes the multimillion allocation for growing the economy through the Special Economic Zones as announced during SOPA.

The ANC Caucus will implement a robust Oversight role over the executive to ensure prudent spending of public funds but more importantly that there is no under expenditure by GPG.
