The ANC Caucus in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature is deeply saddened by the sudden and tragic passing of Cde Lindi Lasindwa.
The passing on of Cde Lasindwa has left a gaping hole in our hearts. Cde Lasindwa is one of the long-serving Members of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature and has contributed immensely to the betterment of the people of Gauteng. A product of the people's struggle, Cde Lasindwa was drawn into the life of activism from a very young age. She belonged to a heroic generation which responded to a clarion call to render the apartheid state ungovernable.
She led students (Cosas), youth ( Kwa- Thema Youth Congress and later ANCYL), ANCWL and ANC structures with commitment and was a fierce defender of the marginalized and the downtrodden. Cde Lasindwa was a dependable ally of the working class and the poor. She belonged to the generation of Each One Teach One, a generation of Freedom or Death Victory is Certain.
Cde Lasindwa was passionate about the plight of Women, Youth and Persons with disabilities. We will remember her zeal and drive in making sure that the needs of the vulnerable groups are prioritised.
As a public servant, Cde Lasindwa knew and understood that the Legislature is a site of struggle to deepen democracy, enactment of progressive legislation to improve the lives of the people.
In the 6th Administration, Cde Lasindwa served as Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Economic Development, Environment, Agriculture & Rural Development. She previously served in various committees including Health, Standing Committee on Public Accounts (SCOPA), Infrastructure Development.
We have lost a public representative par excellence, a feisty and tenacious leader who was fearless in demanding accountability, a leader who drew both trepidation ( for non-performance) and admiration. She unflinchingly without sparring no strength or effort in ensuring that the executive and departments she played an oversight role on performed optimally.
The Mass Democratic Movement has lost a torchbearer who inspired us to see light even during the darkest moments in the liberation struggle.
We dip our revolutionary banner in salute of this outstanding patriot, a woman of substance, a freedom fighter and a defender of the marginalized and the downtrodden.
We convey our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of comrade Lindi Lasindwa
We will always remember our beloved Comrade Lasindwa, Hasta Siempre Cde Lindi Lasindwa!
Issued by the Office of the Chief Whip, Cde Mzi Khumalo.
