ANC Caucus Gauteng Legislature congratulates matric class of 2020
We congratulate MEC Panyaza Lesufi, the HOD Edward Mosuwe and their team at the Department of Education as well as the committed learners, dedicated educators, and parents who against all odds went out of their way in salvaging the 2020 academic year and also achieved great success under great adversity presented by the invisible enemy. We also extend our gratitude to the Gauteng Department of Education’s brigades who braved a deadly virus to shield our learners and teachers from contracting the virus and ensuring that Covid protocols are maintained at all our schools.
We are proud of the efforts put by all stakeholders to ensure that education becomes a societal priority. We welcome the 83.3 % pass rate making Gauteng the second-best province. Not only has the department under great leadership at all levels done well in terms of numbers but they have improved the quality of the results.
The unparalleled dedication shown by learners and educators resulted in the increase of Bachelor passes to 49680 and 41459 distinctions.
We congratulate all the successful learners and encourage those who were not successful to use the second chance available to them to attain their matric certificates.
We applaud the Tshwane South District for achieving position one for the second time as the best performing district in the country. We are immensely proud that Gauteng West, Gauteng North, Johannesburg North, and Sedibeng districts are part of the 10 best performing Districts nationally. That there are six best-performing districts from Gauteng in the top 10 is a testament to the work done by all stakeholders in the educational sector.
Caucus salutes all stakeholders for ensuring a successful 2020 academic year. We wish the class of 2021 success as they embark on the challenging and yet exciting year.
Issued by the Office of the Chief Whip, Cde Mzi Khumalo.
